WAFCON QF4: Malawi vs Ghana – Prediction & Betting Tips

Match Preview 

Few would have predicted Malawi finishing above Nigeria and Zambia in Group C before WAFCON 2026 began, but the tournament debutants have rightfully earned their place in the quarterfinals. Ghana’s women now stand between the Scorchers and their first semi-final position. This next face-off on 9 August has a lot of potential and promises to be a good fight for all involved.  

Malawi’s first appearance at WAFCON has already been beyond memorable. They opened their campaign by stunning the defending champions Nigeria with a 3–2 score before following that up with a 3–1 victory over Egypt. Their only defeat came in the final group game, where Zambia won 2–1, but even so, their performance so far has been exceptional. 

Ghana started their WAFCON campaign with a 2–0 win over Cape Verde before losing 1–0 to Cameroon, leaving their final match against Mali to decide who got to move on. Luckily for the Ghanaians, they came our successful and proceed into the next stage of the competition. 

Their group-stage numbers may not look as exciting as Malawi’s, but Ghana have conceded only twice in the last three matches. That defensive record may be an important factor in deciding who comes out on top.

Ghana holds the recent head-to-head advantage, beating Malawi 4–0 in a July 2026 warm-up after also winning 3–1 in June 2025. However, Malawi have looked a completely different side at WAFCON, with victories over Nigeria and Egypt proving they cannot be judged on those friendly results alone.
