Match Preview
After a weekend of exciting quarterfinal knockouts, WAFCON 2026 is down to its final four. Morocco, Cameroon, Algeria and tournament debutants Malawi remain in contention, meaning a new African champion will be crowned this year.
The first semifinal sees hosts Morocco come up against a Cameroon team that has already proven it is more than capable of upsetting the favourites, having knocked Nigeria out over the weekend.
Morocco booked their place in the final four with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over South Africa on Saturday. That win continued Morocco’s unbeaten streak of their WAFCON campaigns this year. They have been one of the more consistent teams from the opening round and will once again have the advantage of playing in front of a home crowd.
Cameroon, however, come into the semifinal after arguably the more impressive quarterfinal result. Cameroon’s victory over Nigeria was yet another strong defensive performance from a side that also has yet to lose a match. They beat Mali and Ghana during the group stage before drawing with Cape Verde. Plus, they have conceded only twice across four WAFCON matches. Their win against Nigeria should also remove any doubt about whether they can handle knockout pressure.
After that result, Morocco will know better than to underestimate them. The same goes for Cameroon, who will come into this match knowing Morocco are in top form. So, who will come out on top?
Head-to-Head
The last two meetings between these two teams suggest this could be a close game. Morocco defeated Cameroon 1–0 at the Aisha Buhari Cup in 2021. Cameroon later returned the favour in April 2025, beating the Atlas Lionesses 1–0 in a friendly in Casablanca. With one recent win apiece and neither match producing more than a single goal, there is very little separating them based on head-to-head history alone.

Morocco to Win
Cameroon deserves plenty of respect after eliminating Nigeria and have been incredibly difficult to break down throughout this tournament. However, Morocco have also remained unbeaten, have conceded only once in four matches and have the added boost of playing the semifinal at home. Backing Morocco here seems like the best choice.
Prediction
Cameroon’s victory over Nigeria makes this a much harder semifinal to call than it might have looked at the start of WAFCON. They have conceded very little and will have no reason to change the approach that has taken them this far.
Morocco, however, have been one of the tournament’s most consistent teams and have slightly more attacking options to work with. With home support behind them and a third consecutive WAFCON final within reach, expect the Atlas Lionesses to find a way through another very tight contest.
