WAFCON Final: Malawi vs Cameroon – Prediction & Betting Tips

Match Preview 

Sixteen teams arrived in Morocco hoping to be crowned African champions. After three weeks of upsets, penalty shootouts, and more than a few predictions being ripped to pieces (talk about surprises), WAFCON 2026 comes down to Malawi and Cameroon. 

Malawi arrived at their first-ever WAFCON as outsiders and will leave as either champions or runners-up. The Scorchers announced themselves with a 3–2 victory over defending champions Nigeria, beat Egypt 3–1, and still topped Group C despite losing their final fixture to Zambia. From there, they defeated Ghana 2–1 in the quarterfinals before producing another statement performance against Algeria.  

The Chawinga sisters have been at the heart of their run, but what has made Malawi so difficult to stop is their willingness to attack regardless of who is standing in front of them. They have now scored 12 goals in five matches, finding the net in every game.  

Cameroon, on the other hand, topped Group D unbeaten before entering the knockouts, where things became even more impressive. They first eliminated record 10-time champions Nigeria 1–0 before facing hosts Morocco in the semifinal. After keeping the Atlas Lionesses scoreless for 120 minutes, Cameroon held their nerve to win the penalty shootout 3–1. 

There is history waiting whichever way Sunday goes. Malawi could win the trophy in their first appearance at the competition, while Cameroon are back in the final for the first time since 2016 and are still chasing their maiden WAFCON title. 

Head-to-Head 

This will be Malawi and Cameroon’s first meeting at the WAFCON, with the Scorchers only making their tournament debut this year. That leaves very little meaningful tournament history to work with, so their performances over the past three weeks offer a much better indication of how this final could play out.

After everything Malawi have done at this tournament, underestimating them now would be asking for trouble. They have already beaten Nigeria, Ghana, and Algeria, scored in every match, and shown an ability to recover when games don’t go their way. 

Cameroon, however, have been incredibly difficult to break down. Holding strong against Nigeria and Morocco in consecutive knockout matches is no small achievement, and their greater experience at this stage could matter when the pressure really kicks in. 

It could go either way here, but perhaps Cameroon is in slightly better shape to win. 

Prediction 

What a way to finish WAFCON 2026. Malawi have been fearless from their opening match and there is little reason to expect them to suddenly become cautious now, but Cameroon’s defence has survived everything thrown at it so far.
