Thunder vs Spurs Game 2 Preview: Thunder Looks to Hit Back

The Thunder look to bounce back in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals after dropping the opener to the Spurs. With Victor Wembanyama coming off a dominant performance, the defending champions will need a stronger showing from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to level the series.

Thunder vs Spurs

The Western Conference Finals continue on Wednesday night as the Oklahoma City Thunder host the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2.

The Spurs put in a good fight to have an early advantage in the series when they secured an impressive 122 – 115 victory against Thunder in Game 1.

As intense as the series is, the Thunder will not back down without a fight to restore their dignity and regain that advantage. After all, the Spurs are in their home court.

Match Preview

The Thunder usually responds very well after defeat, and Spurs are in for a big competition. The Spurs’ spirit is still high and in celebratory mode, however, the series could go sideways.  They will be hoping for another big night from, but they also know that it won’t be as easy as ABC.

Despite the loss, there is no panic in Thunder. The defending NBA champions have built a reputation for bouncing back when things don’t go their way.

During last season’s championship run, the Thunder lost the opening game in multiple playoff series before responding strongly in the following matchup.

Their focus heading into Game 2 will be improving their overall execution and finding ways to slow down Wembanyama. They will need a more clinical performance from its leader if it wants to even the series.

Players to watch

Oklahoma City Thunder – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

It’s not shocking to see Gilgeous Alexander topping the list of the most valuable player. He brought back Thunder back to the NBA finals for the first time since 2012. He led the team on an impressive win when Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers to secure the NBA Championship during the 2024/2025 season.

San Antonio Spurs – Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs superstar was unstoppable, finishing with 41 points, 24 rebounds and three blocks in one of the best playoff performances of his young career. He carried the Spurs on both ends of the floor and helped the team steal home-court advantage from Thunder. His energy and confidence have given the team another weapon as they chase a place in the NBA Finals.

What to expect

The matchup between Wembanyama and Thunder’s frontcourt could decide the game. If the Thunder can limit his impact and force other Spurs players to beat them, they will have a much better chance of getting back into the series. If Wembanyama dominates again, Spurs could find itself just two wins away from the NBA Finals.

Prediction

Game 1 showed just how dangerous the Spurs can be, but Thunder has a history of responding strongly after playoff defeats. Considering that Thunder are the defending champions, expect them to come out with greater intensity and make the necessary adjustments.

The Spurs should keep things competitive, but the home crowd and the urgency of avoiding a 2-0 deficit could give Thunder the edge. Be a part of this adrenaline rush action and place your bet with Bet.co.za today.
