Orlando Pirates Dominate PSL Awards as Mofokeng Shines

Having secured the Premiership title, MTN8 and Carling Knockout trophies, the Buccaneers capped off a remarkable season by sweeping the individual awards at the annual ceremony.

Relebohile Mofokeng was the standout performer, taking home three of the most prestigious accolades. The 21-year-old, who recently completed a move to Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, was named Footballer of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season following another exceptional campaign.

Pirates’ dominance extended beyond Mofokeng’s success. Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou received the Coach of the Season award, while the club also claimed honours in several other key categories, including Goalkeeper of the Season, Goal of the Season and Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament.

The only major Premiership award to evade the Soweto giants was the Golden Boot, which was won by Golden Arrows striker Sede Junior Dion after finishing the league campaign with 14 goals.

Mofokeng’s Footballer of the Season triumph came ahead of strong competition from Oswin Appollis and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena, highlighting the impact the young star made throughout the season.

The ceremony also featured a heartfelt tribute to the late Jayden Adams. The Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder was posthumously honoured with the PSL Chairman’s Award, presented by league chairman Dr Irvin Khoza in recognition of his contribution to South African football.
