PSL Transfer: Kaizer Chiefs Drop Cele as Witbooi Eyes Europe

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has confirmed that midfielder Thabo Cele is no longer part of his plans as he begins shaping his squad for the upcoming season of the Betway Premiership.

Cele was notably left out of Amakhosi’s pre-season tour of Spain, further signalling that the 29-year-old is on his way out of Naturena.

The midfielder joined Chiefs in January 2025 from Russian side Fakel Voronezh and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team. Despite being contracted to the Glamour Boys until 2028, Cele now appears set for an early departure as the club looks to move in a new direction under Da Cruz.

“Thabo Cele, we have a lot of players in his position. I prefer other profiles and for the moment, he’s not in my plans,” Da Cruz told the media.

Emile Witbooi wanted in Europe

Emile Witbooi’s stock continues to rise, with clubs from La Liga, England, and Belgium all showing strong interest in securing the talented teenager’s signature, according to ESPNAfrica.

His representatives at Roc Nation Sports believe the 17-year-old has the potential to reach the very top of the game.

“I think he’s a player who should be playing at the highest level with his ability and his potential. I think it’s unlimited where he can go,” the agency said.

Witbooi has also attracted interest from Orlando Pirates, with Roc Nation Sports confirming that a move to one of South Africa’s top clubs remains a viable option. However, the agency maintains that a move to Europe would be the ideal next step in his development.

“I believe there’s going to be a number of top clubs in South Africa that will want him, and that can be exciting. But I truly believe that for Emile to reach his ceiling and highest level, it would be great to get him into Europe.”
