WORLD CUP:‘I hope definitely that Hugo Broos will see his performance’ – Ouaddou on Sipho Chaine

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, hopes that Bafana Bafana mentor Hugo Broos will include Sipho Chaine in the 23-man that will go to the 2026 FIFA World co-host by United States, Mexico and Canada.

Chaine is the only goalkeeper with the most clean sheets this season and after Pirates’ 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch in Cape Town on Tuesday night. The 29-year-old shotstopper emulated Rowen Williams’ record of having 18 clean sheets in a season.

Chaine was dropped from the Bafana squad in their recent two friendlies against Panama due to discipline issues that Broos identified as a reason for leaving the player out of the team.

The Soweto giant’s goalkeeper was part of the team that represented the country in the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.

Speaking after the match against Stellies, Ouaddou revealed he hopes that Chaine’s performance won’t go unnoticed by the Belgian mentor, as he will soon announce the team that will go to the World Cup.

“Chaine is an important player for us, and I’m happy for him that he broke the record,” Ouaddou said.

“We still have some games, and I hope definitely that Hugo Broos will see his performance.

“And I really hope that he will be part of the national team in the US, he deserves it and he is working hard for that.”
