Preview: Protea Women Eye Semi-Final Spot Against Bangladesh 

One match stands between the Protea Women and making it to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals. Bangladesh takes on the South African side at Lord’s on Sunday, 28 June. Here, the Protea Women look to continue their impressive run in their final Group A fixture.  

Protea Women Hit Top Form 

The Protea Women produced a standout performance against the Netherlands on Thursday evening. Opening batter Tazmin Brits stole the show with an unbeaten 114 off 69 balls. This was her first T20 international century. Captain Laura Wolwaardt and Annerie Dercksen helped the Protea Women reach a tournament best of 208/1.  

Not only was their batting phenomenal, but their bowling was just as good. Ayabonga Khaka led the attack with 3/19. This helped keep the Dutch side to an overall score of 120/8, despite an encouraging opening stand.  

So, despite their opening match loss to Australia, the Protea Women have bounced back with a 3-time back-to-back win.  

Bangladesh Looking to End on a High 

Bangladesh arrive on a low after their five-wicket loss to India. While Juairiya Ferdous and captain Nigar Sultana Joty made impactful contributions, it wasn’t enough to beat India.  

They now face the danger that is the Protea Women. If Bangladesh wants to keep up with the South African side, both their batting and bowling need to be top tier. They need to bring the same energy they brought against Pakistan with their 23-run win.

After scoring her first T20 international century, Tazmin Brits has become a player to watch. Her 114 off 69 balls showcased her combination of power and patience. With her confidence boosted, Brits will be looking to win this match for the Protea Women.  

Nigar Sultana 

Captain of the Bangladesh side, Nigar Sultana’s experience is needed for this heated clash. The wicketkeeper-batter is known for her ability to steady an innings under pressure.
