Springboks vs Wales: Match Report

Two matches, two commanding wins, means back-to-back zero points on the scoreboard for Wales. The Springboks continued their domination in the 2026 Nations Championship with a 43-0 victory over Wales on Saturday evening.  

South Africa dominated Wales from start to finish, scoring seven tries and securing themselves a bonus-point win again. This result continued the Boks’ unbeaten winning streak in the competition so far. Not only this, but it highlighted the depth of players available to head coach Rassie Erasmus.  

Springboks Dominate from the Opening Whistle 

The Springboks wasted little time asserting themselves in the game. In fact, within the first 13 minutes, they had already scored two tries – one by Aphelele Fassi and one by Cobus Reinach. So, by 14 minutes, the Boks were leading 14-0.  

After that, South Africa continued to dominate the game but were let down by some handling errors. Wales struggled at scrum time. This struggle continued for much of the first half, with unforced errors from the Springboks being the order of the day.  

A third try came just after the half-time buzzer by Jesse Kriel. The veteran centre made no mistakes in scoring this try and starting half-time with South Africa up by 19-0.  

Second Half Belongs to the Springboks 

There was no hope of a Welsh comeback as the Springboks dominated in the second half both physically and tactically.  

South Africa scored a try within the first minute of the second half. Reinach collected a high ball and then found Cobus Wiese. This was then offloaded to Jaco Williams, who debuted in this match. The Springboks now lead 26-0.  

Throughout the rest of the second half, the Boks remained outstanding, scoring three more tries. They ended this match with seven tries overall.  

Wales Unable to Break Through 

Wales struggled to create meaningful attacking chances. So, although they showed improved determination compared to previous meetings, they were unable to go up against South Africa.  

This loss comes after their 73-0 loss to the Springboks in 2025. South Africa again dominated the set pieces and collisions.  

What This Result Means 

This win gave the Springboks another bonus-point win in the Nations Championship, maintaining their perfect streak going into the November edition of this tournament.  

So, while there was room for improvement due to handling errors, the Springboks showed their dominance again. They also showed their willingness to give younger players playing time. 

Now the Springboks will be looking to bring this winning energy into their rivalry with New Zealand starting next month.
