April’s Top Five UFC Knockouts

April was all about awe-inspiring finishes inside the Octagon, writes Quintin van Jaarsveld as he selects the top five UFC knockouts of the month.

April had it all, from a newcomer signalling his arrival in spectacular fashion to undefeated streaks being snapped, a femme fatale flat-lining her foe, and one of the most mind-blowing title wins in UFC history.

Without further ado, here are the month’s five best knockouts:

5: Erased

Paulo “The Eraser” Costa moved up to light heavyweight and immediately established himself as a title contender in UFC 327’s co-headliner as he handed Azamat Murzakanov his first defeat with a wicked head kick.

4: Liver King

Ethyn Ewing emphatically ended Rafael Estevam’s undefeated streak at UFC Vegas 115, battering the Brazilian before finishing him off with a beautiful body shot.

3: Destructive Debut

Knockout artist Marcio Barbosa lived up to the hype in his promotional debut when he blasted Dennis Buzukja into the shadow realm with a hellacious left hook at UFC Winnipeg.

2: Trip to Wonderland

Alice Pereira left Hailey Cowan in wonderland when she put her out cold with a knee to the chin at UFC Vegas 115.

1: One of a Kind

Remember the old idiom about a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest? Well, Carlos Ulberg must’ve never heard it as he claimed the vacant light heavyweight title in unbelievable fashion.

After blowing out his knee early in the main event of UFC 327, a hobbling “Black Jag” snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as he landed his trademark check left hook on Jiri Prochazka and separated him from his senses with follow-up shots to become the new 205-pound king.
