PSL Transfer: Ouaddou Commits & Cele’s Chiefs Future

With the Premier Soccer League (PSL) left with few weeks to kick-off we bring you the latest transfer news ahead of the 2026/27 season

SOWETO, SOUTH AFRICA - AUGUST 09: Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou during the Betway Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium on August 09, 2025 in Soweto, South Africa.

Orlando Pirates Coach Ouaddou Responds to Exit Rumours

Betway Premiership-winning coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has reaffirmed his commitment to Orlando Pirates following speculation linking him with a move to Egyptian giants Zamalek.

At the end of last season, Ouaddou revealed that he had considered resigning from the club, but Pirates’ management convinced him to stay. He went on to guide the Soweto giants to a domestic treble before admitting after the campaign that he was physically and mentally drained by the demands of leading one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

Those comments fuelled speculation among some supporters that he could be preparing to leave, with subsequent reports linking the Moroccan tactician to Zamalek. However, Pirates firmly dismissed those claims.

Speaking during the club’s ongoing pre-season tour of Spain, Ouaddou has now moved to set the record straight, reaffirming his commitment to the Buccaneers.

“Yes, I really had a good time. I just was honest with people. I felt tired because to lead such a fantastic club with fantastic fans, it’s demanding. Everybody knows that it’s demanding,” Ouaddou said to Michael Morton.

“So, I don’t understand why some people don’t understand that sometimes a coach can be tired. But it’s fine. I’m back, and I recharged all my batteries. I’m not 100%. I’m 2,000%.”

“During the week, I read a lot of things that the coach has offers from North Africa and Europe. People have to understand that I’m very loyal. Mpumi , Nkosana , the father (Dr Irvin Khoza), I have a lot of respect for these people.”

“They gave me the opportunity to lead such a big club. It’s not given to anybody. So, I must be very loyal to these people and very loyal to our fans.”

Thabo Cele granted permission to leave Kaizer Chiefs

Thabo Cele’s future at Kaizer Chiefs appears increasingly uncertain after the midfielder was left out of the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain. According to Soccer Laduma, the player has been granted permission to explore opportunities elsewhere.

While the Amakhosi squad continues its preparations for the new season in Europe, Cele has remained in South Africa, a notable omission for one of the club’s experienced midfielders.

The player’s representatives have been informed that they are free to seek alternative opportunities, with Chiefs prepared to facilitate a transfer should a suitable offer emerge.

Loan Door Shut For Sundowns Keeper?

Mamelodi Sundowns have decided against sending goalkeeper Jody February out on loan, with the CAF Champions League winners opting to retain the former Ajax Cape Town shot-stopper for the upcoming season.

According to Soccer Laduma, Sekhukhune United had expressed interest in signing February on loan ahead of the new campaign.

However, Sundowns have turned down the approach despite the 29-year-old’s limited game time since joining the club.

February is currently under contract with the Brazilians until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by a further year.
