Kaizer Chiefs have moved a step closer to securing the signature of Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili after the two clubs reportedly reached an agreement in principle over the proposed transfer, according to SABC Sport.
Negotiations gathered pace this week after Chiefs submitted an improved offer following several rounds of discussions. The talks included player-swap proposals as well as a cash component in an effort to meet Stellenbosch’s valuation.
Earlier negotiations centred on the potential inclusion of striker Ashley du Preez and at least one other player, but Stellenbosch were initially hesitant to approve the move. The Cape Winelands club preferred either selling Phili abroad or allowing him to see out the remainder of his contract.
However, the latest developments suggest both clubs have now agreed on the basic structure of the deal. While a few finer details still need to be ironed out, the transfer is edging closer to completion.

Primarily a central and defensive midfielder, Mokobodi is also capable of operating at right-back, making him a valuable addition to Pirates’ ranks.
The former Marumo Gallants player enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with Stellenbosch, featuring in 28 matches across five competitions, including the CAF Confederation Cup, where he established himself as one of the club’s standout performers.
