Kaizer Chiefs are set to leave for Spain on Thursday evening as they begin a crucial pre-season under newly appointed head coach Fernando da Cruz.
The Soweto giants will hold a nine-day training camp in Murcia from 10 to 19 July, giving Da Cruz his first extended opportunity to work with the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The camp will focus on improving fitness, implementing the coach’s tactical philosophy and helping new arrivals settle into the team. It will also provide the technical staff with an opportunity to assess the squad before the start of the new campaign.
Chiefs have already confirmed the signings of defender Thabo Moloisane and goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, with both players expected to be involved during the tour.
In addition, several standout performers from the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side could travel with the first team, allowing Da Cruz and his coaching staff to evaluate some of the club’s brightest young prospects.
As part of their preparations, Amakhosi will play a number of friendly matches. They are scheduled to face Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood at the Pinatar Arena Football Centre on 15 July, a fixture expected to offer an early indication of the team’s progress under the new coach.
Chiefs are also expected to take on Spanish outfit Elche CF on 18 July in what promises to be another demanding test as they continue refining their squad and tactical approach.
Additional friendly matches could still be arranged, with several international clubs expected to be training at the same venue during the same period.
Kaizer Chiefs had not commented on the club’s travel arrangements or pre-season plans at the time of publication.
