Kaizer Chiefs confirm Gaston Sirino exit as Durban City move nears

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of veteran playmaker Gaston Sirino, with the Uruguayan midfielder expected to be unveiled as a Durban City player in the coming days.

Sirino will enter his 10th season in the South African Betway Premiership after previously starring for Mamelodi Sundowns before making the switch to Naturena. He is set to reunite with former Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef at newly promoted Durban City.

The 34-year-old spent two seasons with Amakhosi, making 61 appearances across all competitions, including 27 starts, while scoring five goals. During his time at the club, Sirino played an important role in helping Chiefs secure the 2025 Nedbank Cup title.

Confirming his departure, Kaizer Chiefs thanked the experienced midfielder for his service and contribution to the club.

“The Club would like to express sincere gratitude to Papi for his dedication and contribution over the past two seasons,” Chiefs said in a statement.

“The experienced Uruguayan midfielder played a key role in helping Amakhosi achieve success since he arrived at the Club. We thank Gaston for his commitment and passion, as well as all the memories he leaves behind at Naturena.”

Sirino’s move forms part of Durban City’s preparations for their Betway Premiership campaign, with the club continuing to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele has also been linked with a move to City, while the club recently confirmed the signing of former Chiefs striker Tashreeq Morris.
