Liverpool v Crystal Palace – Preview, Predictions and Best Bets

Liverpool face Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The Reds have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions. Palace’s 19-match unbeaten streak is now a distant memory with three losses in the last four.

Match: Arsenal v Brighton
When: Wednesday, 29 Oct 2025

Liverpool Form

The Reds look in crisis right now. After winning seven of their opening eight matches this season, they’ve struggled in recent weeks to get results and to perform at a good level. They were thoroughly outplayed in a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace before a 1-0 loss away to Galatasaray after a bizarre team selection.

Liverpool conceded late to lose 2-1 at Chelsea before losing 2-1 at Anfield to Man Utd as they missed a plethora of chances (19 shots, 2.75 xG). A 5-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt provided only a short-term reprieve as they were beaten 3-2 at Brentford at Saturday in another poor display.

Liverpool Team News

Giovanni Leoni is injured at centre back. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch are not set to play any part, whilst Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong are doubtful.

Coach Arne Slot could make a few changes to his XI, but he needs a win and can’t rest too many. Federico Chiesa, Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to come into the lineup.

Liverpool Motivation

Arne Slot’s side need to get back on track. They will take this cup game seriously to try to gain some momentum.

Liverpool will play an attacking game, but they’ve dialled back their gung-ho approach of late in an unsuccessful attempt to protect a vulnerable defence.

Crystal Palace Form

Palace finished last season in great form and continued that into this season. They won last season’s FA Cup and this season’s Community Shield on penalties. A totally deserved 2-1 over Liverpool and a 2-0 win away at Dynamo Kiev showed their progress as a club. However, they’ve since lost three of their last four matches.

A last-gasp 2-1 loss at Everton ended their 19-match unbeaten run. They put up 4.44 xG in a 3-3 home draw with Bournemouth before losing 1-0 at home to AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League despite outshooting their opponents 15-4. On Sunday, they mustered just one shot on target in a 1-0 loss at Arsenal.

Crystal Palace Team News

Coach Oliver Glasner will see this as a winnable game and could go with close to his best XI. Cheick Doucoure and Chadi Riad remain absent in midfield and defence, respectively.

Eddie Nketiah will hope for a rare start up front. Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes are options to freshen up the midfield.

Crystal Palace Motivation

Palace want to try to lift this trophy, after tasting silverware in the FA Cup last term. They will go to Anfield with confidence of beating a struggling Reds side.

Glasner’s side will set deep at times, but they also have pace and power up front to hurt Liverpool.

Key Stats

  • Liverpool have lost 5 of their last 6 matches
  • Liverpool have conceded 30 goals in their last 16 fixtures
  • Crystal Palace have lost just 3 of their last 4 matches (unbeaten in 19 before that)
  • Palace are unbeaten in 3 matches vs Liverpool (DDL)

Verdict

The hosts are really struggling and Palace look a good bet to at least avoid defeat in the 90 minutes. Both sides should score in the match.

Best Bet: Crystal Palace win/draw double chance at 2.05

Value Bet: Draw (90 minutes)
