Hugo Broos Earned R19M After Bafana’s World Cup Success

South Africa booked their place at the global showpiece after a successful qualifying campaign under the experienced Belgian coach Hugo Broos. Bafana Bafana impressed throughout the qualifiers with disciplined performances and consistent results, securing one of Africa’s coveted qualification spots.

At the tournament, they advanced beyond the group stage to reach the Round of 32, earning the South African Football Association (SAFA) a significant financial windfall from FIFA.

According to the report, FIFA awarded Bafana Bafana $11 million (approximately R185.5 million) in prize money for reaching the knockout phase.

The players received 23% of the total prize money, creating a bonus pool of $2.53 million (around R42.6 million). This meant each member of the squad earned approximately $97,300 (about R1.6 million) in bonuses for their achievement.

Broos, who has transformed Bafana Bafana into one of Africa’s most competitive national teams since taking charge in 2021, reportedly received 10% of the prize money. His share amounted to $1.1 million, which is approximately R19 million.

Assistant coach Helman Mkhalele also benefited from the team’s success. He reportedly received 5% of the prize fund, earning $550,000 (around R9 million).

The financial rewards reflect South Africa’s impressive World Cup campaign, with both the players and coaching staff receiving substantial bonuses after helping Bafana Bafana reach the Round of 32 on football’s biggest stage.
