2026 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Mexico 

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has officially begun with the opening ceremony and first matches having started yesterday. The opening ceremony featured a star-studded lineup that highlighted Mexico’s rich cultural heritage.  

But for South Africans everywhere, the real talk of the event was the performance by Grammy Award-winning artist Tyla. She proudly represented the nation with a powerful rendition of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika.  

Tyla, accompanied by members of the Mzansi Youth Choir, created an emotional moment that resonated with Bafana Bafana, Hugo Broos, and thousands of South African fans around the world.  

This moment had added significance, as it was South Africa’s first World Cup appearance in 16 years. The stage was ready and waiting for the Mexico vs South Africa match.

Star-Studded Entertainment Launches the Tournament 

This year’s FIFA World Cup opened with an impressive lineup of international artists and local Mexican favourites. It combined music, culture, and entertainment into a memorable opening ceremony.  

The event was headlined by Shakira and Burna Boy who performed “Dai Dai“, the official anthem of the World Cup. The energy and colours showcased a vibrant display of music, dance, and celebration.  

This performance, along with performances by Mana, Alejandro Fernandez, and Belinda, showcased Mexico’s diverse artistic traditions. They welcomed football fans from around the world.
