Dortmund vs Bayern Munich – Preview, Predictions and Best Bets

Dortmund host Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening.

BVB were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek. Die Roten have won 10 of their last 14 Bundesliga clashes vs Dortmund.

Dortmund Form

It’s been a poor week for Dortmund. They saw the gap to Bayern Munich increase to eight points in the Bundesliga and they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League. Prior to those two results, it had been six straight league wins. A 3-0 win at Union Berlin was followed by a 2-0 home loss to Inter Milan.

Four straight victories followed. They beat Atalanta 2-0 in their Champions League playoff in the fourth of those matches. Last weekend, BVB needed a 95th-minute goal to rescue a 2-2 draw at RB Leipzig. On Wednesday, they lost 4-1 away to Atalanta as a 2-0 first leg lead was overturned.

Dortmund Team News

Emre Can is available in defence after a groin injury. Nico Schlotterbeck is back after four matches out and could get some minutes. Niklas Sule is still absent.

Coach Niko Kovac is without influential right wingback Julian Ryerson. He could make some changes to the XI with midweek goalscorer Karim Adeyemi pushing for a start.

Dortmund Motivation

Dortmund need a win in this match if they want to keep the title race alive. A defeat would effectively hand Bayern the title.

BVB have been a mess defensively of late. They have little choice but to set up defensively against Bayern Munich in this one.

Bayern Munich Form

Bayern have lost just once in 18 matches in all competitions. They’ve won 19 of their 23 Bundesliga matches this term with a mammoth 85 goals scored. They’ve unbeaten on the road with nine wins and two draws. A shock 2-1 home loss to Augsburg was followed by a 2-1 win at PSV in the Champions League.

More dropped points in the league followed, drawing 2-2 at Hamburger SV. They’ve won their last four matches with 13 goals scored. They smashed Hoffenheim 5-1 and beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in the DFK Pokal. A 3-0 win at Werder Bremen preceded a 3-2 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt last Saturday.

Bayern Munich Team News

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is doubtful with a calf injury. Jonas Urbig is on standby to cover in goal.

Alphonso Davies is set to miss out with a muscle injury. Hiroki Ito could cover in the back four in a rare start.

Bayern Munich Motivation

Bayern are fresh and will go all out for the win. A victory would go a long way to towards securing the league title.

Vincent Kompany’s side will look to totally dominate possession and territory. They will keep attacking, even if holding a narrow lead.

Key Stats

  • Dortmund have won 6 of their last 7 Bundesliga matches
  • Dortmund have lost 10 of their last 14 league matches vs Bayern Munich
  • Bayern Munich have won 19 of 23 league matches this season (85 goals scored)
  • Bayern’s Harry Kane has scored 12 goals in his last 9 matches

Verdict

Bayern look unstoppable right now. I see a convincing win with Kane scoring two or more goals.

Best Bet: Bayern Munich win (-1 goal handicap) at 2.50

Goalscorer Tip: Harry Kane to score 2 or more goals at 4.20
