FIFA World Cup Preview: Jordan vs Argentina 

Defending champions Argentina will conclude their Group J campaign against 2026 FIFA World Cup newbies Jordan at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas. 

Argentina have already secured the top spot with back-to-back victories over Algeria and Austria without conceding a goal. Jordan, meanwhile, have lost both matches so far. They have been eliminated from making it through to the Round of 32.  

Jordan 

Jordan’s first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance has provided them with valuable experience going forward. Although determined, their double losses have resulted in them being eliminated from knockout contention. They lost 3-1 to Austria before losing 2-1 to Algeria. 

They head into this final group match with no new injuries or suspensions. Expect coach Jamal Sellami to name a similar starting XI.  

While Jordan have managed to score two goals, they have struggled defensively against higher-ranking opposition. This has caused them to concede five goals across their two opening matches.  

Argentina 

Argentina have looked like defending champions throughout the group stage so far. They have yet to concede a goal, winning 3-0 to Algeria and 2-0 to Austria. Their controlled possession, defensive solidity, and ability to score have highlighted why they are one of the favourites to win the World Cup.  

Expect them to do a squad rotation and rest their main players for the Round of 32. Captain Lionel Messi will probably sit out while Julián Álvarez is expected to lead the attack.  

There is one confirmed injury, Cristian Romero. However, Nicolás Otamendi is expected to replace him.  

What’s at Stake 

For Argentina, the pressure is minimal. They have already secured their top spot in Group J. This will allow coach Lionel Scaloni to rotate the squad and keep stars fresh ahead of the knockout stages.  

Facing Argentina will be Jordan’s biggest match yet. The pressure is on to perform to the best of their ability and show the world what they are made of. Even though they are already eliminated, they will be wanting to be the first team in the competition so far to score a goal against Argentina.  

Verdict  

Jordan will be bringing their all to this match. But going up against the reigning world champions is a near impossible task.
