Whether it was in Las Vegas, New York or Qatar, UFC warriors left lasting impressions with wicked finishes. From overwhelming offence to overcoming adversity and jaw-dropping single-shot bombs, these are the month’s top knockouts:
Honourable Mentions:
Bent Out Of Shape
Josh Hokit was a man possessed in his promotional debut at UFC Vegas 111, viciously mowing down Max Gimenis in just 56 seconds. Then he went on the mic and cut a funny WWE-style promo so crazy I just had to include it.
Jacked Up
Myktybek Orolbai gave Jack Hermansson a rude welcome to the welterweight division as he slept the Swede with a single blow at UFC Qatar.
Sweet 16
It took “The God of War” Benoit Saint Denis just 16 seconds to dispatch Beneil Dariush in the UFC 322 main card opener and reclaim a place in the lightweight top 10.
5: Eye Of The Tiger
In a crazy turn of events, Waldo Cortes-Acosta went from seemingly staring defeat in the face to a massive win over Ante Delija in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 110.
Cortes-Acosta took an accidental eye poke followed by a flurry of punches from Delija that forced referee Mark Smith to intervene. The fight was stopped momentarily but replays showed it was a clear eye poke.
The Dominican was given time to recover from the foul and the option to continue if he wanted to. Despite being clearly compromised, an angry “Salsa Boy” said let’s go and put Delija down and out with a big right hand and follow-up hammer fists.
Not satisfied, Cortes-Acosta doubled down as he stepped up on just two days’ notice and stopped Shamil Gaziev at UFC Qatar. The big man thoroughly deserves a mention for both of his stoppages, so I’ve lumped them together.
4: Fully Loaded
Ismail Naurdiev uncorked a hell of an overhand right to flatline Ryan Loder and score a one-punch knockout at UFC Qatar.
3: Rocky Goes Down
Carlos Prates became the first man to knock out Leon Edwards inside the Octagon at UFC 322, “The Nightmare” taking the former welterweight champion off his feet with a stunning straight left and putting “Rocky” out cold with a follow-up shot.
2: Not Your Usual Game Of Marco Polo
Christian Leroy Duncan capped off his stellar year with a beautiful beatdown of Marco Tulio at UFC Vegas 111, wobbling him with a spinning backfist and face-planting him with a brutal right hand.
1: Back With A Bang
Returning to the Octagon for the first time since suffering his first career loss, wrestling phenom Bo Nickal got back into the win column in style as he starched Rodolfo Vieira with a vicious head kick at UFC 322.
