Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef hopes that at least three players on his side will be chosen to represent Bafana Bafana in the 2026 Fifa World Cup in North America.

Despite Chiefs players consistently failing to impress Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, Youssef believes their recent comeback demands a second look.

For months, the Belgian mentor has been vocal about his dissatisfaction, repeatedly stating that Amakhosi players must significantly elevate their game to earn a place in the squad.

Youssef argues that the Glamour Boys have finally turned a corner and deserve a seat on the table.

As Broos prepares to name his squad, the opening match will be against Mexico in group A. Youssef insists that ignoring the current performance of these players would be unjust if Broos doesn’t consider them for the World Cup selection.

“The most important thing for us is to have at least three players in Bafana Bafana when the list of the Bafana Bafana squad is announced. We expect to find a minimum of three Kaizer Chiefs players.

Through that, we will know that the team is coming together and is ready to compete for the league (next season).” Ben Youssef said.

Currently chasing a top-three finish in the Betway Premiership, the club is determined to secure a spot in the next season of CAF Confederation Cup.

After yesterday’s game that ended in a 1 – 1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, Thabiso Monyane walked away with man of the match award after showing off his qualities in the right back position.

Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has also been phenomenal this season despite his injury that costed him a call up to the national team when they faced Panama in the friendly matches.

“I say this not because I’m the coach of Kaizer Chiefs, but some of our players deserve to get a chance regarding the performances they are showing and the consistency,” said Ben Youssef.

Broos to announce the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad in the next coming weeks. With the World Cup set to start on 11 June, you can place a bet with Bet.co.za and back your favourite player or national team throughout the tournament.
