Aden McCarthy, a product of the Kaizer Chiefs development structures, rose through the ranks before earning his breakthrough in the senior team.

The young defender made his first-team debut on May 17, 2025, in a Betway Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United, a moment that proved to be the beginning of his emergence as a key member of the squad.

The 22-year-old established himself as an important figure in the Amakhosi setup, making 33 appearances across all competitions for the Soweto giants.

His consistent performances were pivotal in helping the Glamour Boys secure a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership, successfully clinching qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.

“We can confirm that we have agreed to release Aden after being approached by Sabah FK,” said the Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., on Chiefs’ X page.

We are proud that he will compete in the qualifying round of next season’s UEFA Champions League. We know Aden will fly the Amakhosi flag high in Europe, and we are excited to see him grow on the world stage.”

McCarthy’s move to Sabah FK represents a significant step forward in his career as he prepares to test himself in European football.

While his departure will leave a void in the Chiefs defence, it also highlights the club’s continued success in developing young talent capable of attracting interest from abroad.
