Kaizer Chiefs Part Ways with Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef

Kaizer Chiefs have decided not to retain co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef as the club begins preparations for the upcoming season.

The pair were appointed on an interim basis after the departure of former head coach Nasreddine Nabi and guided Chiefs to a third-place finish in the PSL standings, the club’s highest league position in recent years.

Amakhosi accumulated 54 points from 30 matches, ending the campaign 15 points behind champions Orlando Pirates.

Their achievement marked a significant improvement from the previous season, when Chiefs finished ninth in the league. Despite that disappointing league campaign, the club managed to secure silverware by lifting the Nedbank Cup under Nabi’s leadership.

While there was speculation that Kaze and Ben Youssef could be given an opportunity to continue in charge, inconsistent performances throughout the season ultimately counted against them.

Supporters grew frustrated with the team’s inability to maintain form, while disappointing results in knockout competitions and an early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup group stage further weakened their case.

With the departure of both coaches now confirmed, Chiefs face the important task of appointing a new head coach capable of restoring the club to title contention.

Several high-profile names have already been linked with the vacancy, including former Mamelodi Sundowns coaches Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi. Mosimane is currently without a club, although Chiefs could face competition for his signature amid reports linking him to the Bafana Bafana job should Hugo Broos step down after the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Mngqithi has also emerged as a strong candidate after guiding Golden Arrows to a top-six league finish. His desire to compete for major honours could make the Chiefs position an attractive opportunity.
