Liverpool vs Crystal Palace – Preview, Predictions and Best Bets

Liverpool face Crystal Palace in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Published on

The Reds have lost four of their last six matches but have won their last two EPL fixtures. Palace have lost just two of their last seven league vs Liverpool.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool have lost four of their last six matches, but successive league wins has them in a good position to finish in the top five. A late goal conceded saw the Reds draw 1-1 at home to struggling Tottenham. A 4-0 home win over Galatasaray sealed a place in the Champions League semi-finals. They lost 2-1 at Brighton before being beaten 4-0 by Man City in the FA Cup.

A 2-0 first-leg loss to PSG in the Champions League was followed by a 2-0 win vs Fulham. They had 21 shots in the second leg vs PSG at home but also lost 2-0 in the end. A very late goal in their last match brought some relief as they beat Everton 2-1 away from home.

Liverpool Team News

Alisson Becker is injured in goal and Giorgi Mamardashvili has a wound to his knee. The latter should be fit to start. Both Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez miss out in defence.

Giovanni Leoni and Wataru Enzo are two other injuries, although neither is a starting XI player. Hugo Ekitike is out long-term in attack. Curtis Jones could play at right back once again.

Liverpool Motivation

Liverpool will see this as a must-win game as they chase a top-five finish. A draw would be seen as a poor result.

Arne Slot’s side won’t play an open game. They will note the pace which Palace possess on the counter attack.

Crystal Palace Form

Crystal Palace had won just once in 11 matches in the league. They’ve since found some form again. A 3-1 win at Tottenham was followed by a 0-0 draw at home to AEK Larnaca. After drawing 0-0 at home to ten-man Leeds, they beat AEK Larnaca 2-1 away in the second leg after extra time.

A 3-0 home win over Fiorentina was a fine result as they put one foot in the Europa Conference League semi-finals. A late goal sealed a 2-1 home win over Newcastle, before losing 2-1 away to Fiorentina in the second leg. On Monday, a tight match ended 0-0 at home to West Ham.

Crystal Palace Team News

Eddie Nketiah is ruled out for this match, and Evann Guessand will play no part. Jean-Philippe Mateta may replace Jorgen Stand Larsen up front.

Ismaila Sarr will return to the XI after a knock. Adam Wharton missed the last match and may not be risked here. Cheick Doucoure continues to battle with injuries and will play no part.

Crystal Palace Motivation

Palace have a huge European semi-final on Thursday in Poland vs Shakhtar. They will have at least one eye on that match.

A draw at Anfield would feel like a win. They won’t risk injuries or fatigue in order to get a point.

Key Stats

  • Liverpool have lost 4 of their last 6 matches in all competitions
  • Liverpool have failed to score in 3 of their last 5 matches
  • Crystal Palace have won 3 of their last 6 league matches (2 draws, 1 loss)

Verdict

This will be a close match. Palace have every chance of leaving Anfield with something, such is the Reds’ poor form.
