Kaizer Chiefs vs Durban City – Preview, Predictions and Best Bets
Kaizer Chiefs face Durban City in the Premier Soccer League on Sunday.
Amakhosi have lost five of their last six matches. Durban City have taken 13 points from their last six league matches. Amakhosi are just three points off the CAF Confederations Cup place, with two games in hand on third place.
Kaizer Chiefs Form
Chiefs have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions. The performance levels and results have led to fan protests and calls for the heads of the co-coaching duo. After six straight clean sheets (four wins, two draws), they lost 2-1 at Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup. A 2-1 home win over Al Masry and a 2-1 away defeat to Zamalek were not enough to progress from their CAF group.
A 1-0 lead was surrendered in a 2-1 home loss to Stellenbosch in the league. Amakhosi were humbled 3-0 in humiliating fashion by Orlando Pirates. Their last match saw a 1-0 defeat away to Richards Bay. Chiefs were outshot 15-5 and had no shots on target.
Kaizer Chiefs Team News
Kaizer Chiefs will hope to have Inacio Miguel available at centre back. The co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalili Ben Youssef are without Rushwin Dortley, Given Msimango and Aden McCarthy (suspended) in defence for this match.
Sibongiseni Mthethwa is suspended in midfield too, but George Matlou may be able to play some part. Chiefs will hope to have Siphesihle Ndlovu available to partner Lebohang Maboe in the engine room. Brandon Petersen is expected to be absent in goal after having surgery.
Kaizer Chiefs Motivation
Chiefs are in poor form and with rock-bottom confidence. They’ve struggled to score goals all season.
Amakhosi will try to get back to keeping clean sheets. A 1-0 win would do them just fine as they chase a top three finish.
Durban City Form
Durban City’s form has been very strong of late. A 2-0 home league win over TS Galaxy made it nine points and three wins in four PSL fixtures. A 0-0 draw away at Upington City in the Nedbank Cup was followed by a win on penalties.
They allowed just 0.28 xG in a 1-0 away win at Marumo Gallants in the league. A 1-1 home draw with Sekhukhune United saw an 88th minute equaliser conceded as they lost a chance to go into the top three places. Their last match saw a 1-1 Nedbank Cup at Golden Arrows before progressing to the semi-finals on penalties.
Durban City Team News
Athini Jodwana is suspended in midfield for Durban City. Thabo Nodada or Haashim Domingo are options to come into the engine room in his place.
Bokang Mokwena could play as a makeshift number nine. Joslin Kamatuka would therefore be used as an impact substitute, whilst fellow striker Letsie Koapeng is an injury doubt.
Durban City Motivation
Durban City are strong defensively, with physicality and vast experience at the back. They will look to frustrate Chiefs.
A draw would be a decent result, but they won’t settle for a point. City will see Chiefs as beatable and will look to take the full haul of points on offer.
