The 2026 FIFA World Cup Group F matches continue with an exciting clash between Japan and Sweden. This is a do-or-die game between both sides. If either side loses, their chances of qualifying for the Round of 32 will be slim. With a one-point difference between the teams, one team will immediately qualify while the other may qualify in third for the knockout stages depending on how other groups perform.

Japan

Japan enters this game with confidence, with one win and one draw behind them.

But there are injuries all around for the Japanese side. Takefusa Kubo, Wataru Endo, Kaoru Mitoma, and Takumi Minamino are all out for this match. This has resulted in Japan needing to adjust their attacking style.

Despite these setbacks, head coach Hajime Moriyasu has stressed the importance of squad depth and a “team-first” approach. So far this has worked for Japan.

Sweden

Sweden heads into this match with no new injury concerns. They’ll be relying on their physically imposing defensive structure as well as their key attacking duo, Alexander Isak and Victor Gyökeres.

The main concern for Sweden will be tightening their defensive structure after inconsistencies in the tournament. They will be pushing to qualify for the Round of 32.

What’s at Stake

For Japan, they are currently second on the log in Group F with four points. A draw for them will be enough to qualify for the next round. They started the World Cup strong with a 4-0 defeat over Tunisia and a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands.

For Sweden, they are currently sitting on three points and in third place on the log. If they want to qualify for the Round of 32, this is a must-win match. In their opening match they dominated Tunisia 5-1. But in their second game, they were defeated 5-1 by the Netherlands.

Players to Watch

Ayase Ueda (Japan)

Leading the squad with 16 international goals, Ayase Ueda combines movement with aerial threat. This makes him a standout performer for Japan in the tournament. His movement, finishing ability, and work rate make him a constant threat and player to watch.

Alexander Isak (Sweden)

Striker Alexander Isak is known as Sweden’s attacking weapon. His pace, technical ability, and goal rate make him an exceptional player.

Verdict

Expect a close match with both sides bringing their all. Sweden is coming in on a low after their loss to the Netherlands. They’ll be under pressure to win this match in order to make it through to the Round of 32.

But Japan’s organisation, tactical discipline, and ability to overcome injuries may give them the edge.
