Farmers Insurance Open Preview
The Farmers Insurance Open has garnered significant attention in recent news coverage, primarily due to Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour following his departure from LIV Golf.
As a five-time Major Championship winner, Koepka has a notable history with this event, having competed in it three times, with his best result being a tied fourth-place finish in 2021. Additionally, Xander Schauffele is commencing his season with this event. Moreover, Schauffele will be looking to put his injuries behind him, which had a significant impact on his 2025 season. Let’s preview the tournament.
Jason Day
Jason Day, a past winner of this event with a victory in 2018, has consistently demonstrated strong performances, finishing fifth, third, and seventh in the last seven years. Although his driving distance has decreased, he can still hit the ball far enough to set up short iron shots into Torrey’s greens. In the previous season, the 38-year-old American golfer enjoyed a remarkable first half, securing top-10 finishes in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Masters Championship. However, he failed to sustain this momentum, unable to achieve a top-20 finish in the second part of the season. Nevertheless, Day has recently regained his form, coming off a second-place finish at The American Express, where he shot 23-under and finished four shots behind Scottie Scheffler.
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele is set to commence his 2026 PGA Tour season at the Farmers Insurance Open. Following a season marred by injuries, Schauffele was unable to replicate his 2024 success, which included two major championships. As a result, he dropped to fourth in the world rankings after starting the year at the top. However, he concluded the year on a positive note by winning the Baycurrent Classic. This victory marked his sole title of the year. Schauffele will be competing in an event where he has secured three top 15 finishes in his last four appearances, with his best result being tied for 9th in the 2024 edition.
Taylor Pendrith
Taylor Pendrith is entering the tournament with high expectations of contending for the victory. Although it may seem like a long shot, it is difficult to discount him entirely. His form has been inconsistent over the last six months. The 34-year-old Canadian has raised several questions about his ability to hit the ball cleanly. He is long off the tee and has achieved success here with finishes of seventh and ninth in the last two years, as well as a 16th place finish in 2022. Furthermore, he began the year on a strong note, finishing tied for sixth in the Sony Open, where he arguably deserved the title after displaying impressive golf. Pendrith narrowly missed the cut by one stroke last week at the American Express. It is now time for him to turn his performance around.
Prize Money
For the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open, the total purse is $9.6 million, up from $9.3 million last year. The champion will take home $1.728 million.
