Top 15 tries of the 2025 Rugby Championship
This year’s Rugby Championship was super-charged and served up plenty of sensational tries, writes Quintin van Jaarsveld as he selects the top 15 five-pointers of the tournament.
The 2025 edition of the Southern Hemisphere showpiece was one of the most exciting yet, with back-to-back champions the Springboks, All Blacks, Wallabies, and Pumas all putting on a show in their pursuit of glory.
Rugby fans were treated to a smorgasbord of delectable dot downs, none more so than these 15 juicy nuggets:
15: Mr 360
The sensational Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu pulled an outrageous 360° dummy out of his bag of tricks to dupe Pumas captain Julian Montoya and complete his hat-trick.
14: First Shot
The Pumas’ first try of the tournament was a fine effort that highlighted their scrambling ability as Tomas Albornoz darted and offloaded off the ground to Santiago Chocobares, who lobbed a ball over the top for Rodrigo Isgro to run in.
13: Perfectly In Sync
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Cheslin Kolbe could not have been more in sync as the former’s perfectly-weighted crosskick found the latter at full tilt to start South Africa’s second-half destruction of the Pumas in Durban.
12: Manie Magic
Manie Libbok summed up the situation in a flash after he scooped up a wayward offload, stepping two Argentinian defenders and chipping the ball over a third to dot down.
11: Full Blast
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu showed good vision and blistering pace to kick into space and pick up the ball on the fly en route to racking up an unbelievable 37 points against Argentina at Kings Park, the most by a Bok in a single Test, breaking Percy Montgomery’s previous record of 35 against Namibia.
10: History in the Making
Harry Wilson had just enough legs to run in the pick of the Wallabies’ six tries in their comeback for the ages at Ellis Park.
9: Oh Boy!
The Boks left the New Zealand commentators in disbelief as they put the All Blacks to the sword in Wellington, Man of the Match Damian Willemse slicing through and linking up with Grant Williams, who stepped and fed Andre Esterhuizen, who powered over.
8: The Santiago Special
Running a terrific line, Santiago Chocobares carved straight through the Wallabies and linked up with Juan Cruz Mallia, who quickly sent Bautista Delguy over.
7: Cam on the Double
Cam Roigard was incredible in his first game back from injury against Australia, scoring two tries, including this beauty, to help the All Blacks retain the Bledisloe Cup for another year.
6: Fast Start
The Springboks got off to a fast start against Australia in the tournament opener, scoring three quick-fire tries – including this cracker finished off by Andre Esterhuizen – before things went horribly wrong for them.
5: Smokin’ Joe Strikes
Australia established early synergy against Argentina in Sydney and fired the first shot through Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i, who powered over after being played in by Andrew Kellaway.
4: Stylish Stuff
Hot hands from a crosskick saw the All Blacks stretch the Boks and draw first blood in Wellington through debutant Leroy Carter. Little did the Kiwis know what was to come.
3: Off the Hook
After a brilliant break from a fearless Ethan Hooker, in his first Test start, from inside his 22, a trademark Manie Libbok crosskick found Pieter-Steph du Toit, who offloaded brilliantly for the omnipresent Kwagga Smith to finish.
2: The start of something Historic
A monster scrum laid the platform, and Siya Kolisi stormed ahead before Andre Esterhuizen fired a beautiful ball to Cheslin Kolbe, who stepped Leroy Carter to score the try that set the Boks on their way to a record 43-10 win over the All Blacks in Wellington.
1: Absolutely Electric
The Pumas were on the edge of a lightning bolt with this superb score against the Wallabies from a scrum, with Lucio Cinti and Santiago Carreras doing particularly well to enable Mateo Carreras to dot down.
