Tottenham vs Newcastle – Preview, Predictions and Best Bets

Tottenham face Newcastle in the English Premier League on Tuesday.

Published on

Spurs have just one win in their last ten league matches. The Magpies have lost eight of their last 13 away fixtures.

Tottenham Form

Spurs are in dire form right now. Their last 10 EPL matches have yielded just one win, whilst it’s a paltry six wins in the last 23 matches in all competitions. After three straight defeats, they briefly bounced back with a four-match unbeaten run. They beat ten-man Dortmund 2-0 at home and scored late to rescue a 2-2 draw at Burnley.

After a 2-0 away win at Eintracht Frankfurt (dominating 15-4 on the shot count), they came back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Man City. On Saturday, they lost 2-0 to Man Utd after playing an hour with ten men. United outshot Spurs 23-7 in a one-sided affair.

Tottenham Team News

Spurs are without Cristian Romero is defence due to suspension. Radu Dragusin is set to replace him at the back. Pedro Porro, Kevin Danson and Destiny Udogie are out injured, but Djed Spece may return.

James Maddison, Dejan Kuluseveksi and Mohamed Kudus are still out. Richarlison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and Lucas Bergvall are also absent.

Tottenham Motivation

Tottenham are ravaged by injuries and their confidence looks low. They need a win here and will try to turn their season around.

Thomas Frank is expected to set up with a defensively strong midfield and lots of pace on the wings. It won’t be an open setup against Newcastle’s fast counters.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle have just one win to their name in the last nine matches across all competitions. They drew 3-3 at home to Bournemouth in the FA Cup and won on penalties. A 2-0 home loss followed to Man City in their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg before a poor 0-0 draw at Wolves.

They won 3-0 at home vs PSV before a 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa. An impressive 1-1 draw away to PSG proved a false dawn as they’ve lost three in a row since then. A 4-1 thrashing at Liverpool was followed by a 3-1 Carabao Cup loss at Man City. On Saturday, they lost 3-2 at home to Brentford.

Newcastle Team News

Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth remain injured in defence. Joelinton and Lewis Miley are set to miss out in midfield.

Anthony Gordon has injured his hamstring and will play no part. Dan Burn and Nick Woltemade are expected to be recalled to the XI.

Newcastle Motivation

Newcastle are awful on their travels. They are not playing with any confidence right now.

Eddie Howe will see a Spurs side that is decimated in defence and will surely look to attack, and try to pick up a rare away victory.

Key Stats

  • Spurs have won just 6 of their last 23 matches (11 losses)
  • Tottenham have won just 1 of their last 10 league matches (4 draws, 5 losses)
  • Tottenham have seen Both Sides on Target in their last 6 home matches vs Newcastle
  • Newcastle have lost 8 of their last 13 away matches (24 goals conceded)
  • Newcastle have lost their last 3 matches

Verdict

This match is hard to predict as both sides are struggling. Newcastle are great value to win this match, but backing the goals market looks the safest strategy.
