Kaizer Chiefs vs Stellenbosch – Preview, Predictions and Best Bets

Kaizer Chiefs face Stellenbosch in the Premier Soccer League on Tuesday.

Amakhosi can go third with a win here, whilst Stellies are just two points above the dreaded relegation zone. Chiefs have won the last three league clashes between these clubs.

Kaizer Chiefs Form

Chiefs have had a slight dip of late. Their last two matches have seen two defeats, leading to elimination from the CAF Confederations Cup and the Nedbank Cup. It will almost certainly be another trophyless season for the club. Before this mini-slump, they had lost just once in 15 matches.

A 1-0 home win over Zesco United made it four successive 1-0 victories and six clean sheets on the spin. They lost 2-1 away to Stellenbosch in Cape Town in the Nedbank Cup round of 32. After a 2-1 home win vs Al Masry in the CAF Confederations Cup, they lost 2-1 away in Egypt to Zamalek. That defeat saw Chiefs crash out of continental action despite taking 10 points from their group (P6, W3, D1, L2).

Kaizer Chiefs Team News

Kaizer Chiefs will hope to have Inacio Miguel available in central defence. The co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalili Ben Youssef can call upon Aden McCarthy after a one-game ban, but Rushwin Dortley remains out injured.

Thabo Cele is set to miss out in midfield due to injury. Bradley Cross is doubtful at left back and Sibongiseni Mthethwa is out injured in the engine room.

Kaizer Chiefs Motivationn

Chiefs need to bounce back from recent disappointments. Their record vs Stellenbosch is very strong in the league.

They will look to be solid and try to keep a clean sheet. If they score one goal, they may shut up shop and protect a 1-0 advantage.

Stellenbosch Form

Stellies are in dire form and they sit down in 14th place in the PSL. The arrival of coach Gavin Hunt saw a league win in his first match in charge, but the club is now on an overall run of just two wins in all competitions. They were knocked out of the CAF Confederations Cup and the Nedbank Cup in recent weeks.

Stellenbosch beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup before losing 3-0 at Otoho d’Oyo in a CAF clash. A 0-0 draw at home to Singida Black Stars came in a dead rubber. After drawing 1-1 at home to Magesi, they lost 1-0 at Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday. A clean handball was ignored as Stellies were denied a penalty at 0-0.

Stellenbosch Team News

Coach Gavin Hunt has two key suspensions for this match. There are also two major fitness question marks over key players. Wonderboy Makhuba is banned up-front and defender Thabo Maloisane is suspended after a late red card vs Arrows.

With forward Tshegofatso Mabasa nursing an injury, Ashley Cupido may lead the line once again. Mosa Lebusa needs a late fitness test whilst Olisa Ndah’s work permit situation is still unclear.

Stellenbosch Motivation

Stellies need something from this match. They could play a back five and look to hit Chiefs on fast breaks through Devin Titus.

A point would be a good result. They will play to nick a win, but may settle for a draw quite early in the second period.
