2026 WORLD CUP: African teams to rise at the World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming with a new format that has increased teams from 32 to 48. This new structure saw African nations expand from five to 10 countries to participate at the tournament.

Here we look at the African teams that could possibly go behind the group stages phase, as this year’s edition promises to have lots of surprises in store.
Morocco: Africa’s benchmark of excellence
The Atlas Lions arrives in this competition as the continent’s most respected team after their historic 2022 World Cup semi-final run, where they eliminated Portugal to reach that stage.

Ivory Coast arrives with renewed confidence and a well-balanced squad capable of adapting to different styles of play. Their strength lies in depth: defensively solid, physically powerful, and technically capable in attack.
Their group is expected to be challenging, likely featuring Germany, Curacao, and Ecuador, but the Elephants have enough quality to compete for second place.
