It’s the United Rugby Championship semi-final battle we’ve all been waiting for: Leinster Rugby versus the DHL Stormers. Happening on Saturday, 6 June, Leinster will host this exciting semi-final clash.

As the reigning champions of the URC 2024/25 season, Leinster will be looking for a win to redeem their title. They will be going into this match with confidence after having won four out of five of their previous matches. This secured them a home advantage for the knockout stages, further enhancing their confidence.

The Stormers come into this game as underdogs. With that said, they have proved themselves over and over again, beating Leinster 35-0 in September 2025. This result will undoubtedly be on everyone’s minds as they prepare for an unforgettable match.

Why This Match Matters So Much

160 minutes separates these two teams from the URC trophy. This semi-final cuts that time in half, making it all that more important.

For Leinster, the pressure is heightened after their win last season. Not only this, but they have home advantage and have been consistent throughout the year. They will be looking for a win to also redeem their name after their loss against the Stormers last season.

For the Stormers, this is their first semi-final since 2023. This means they have to prove themselves to a bigger audience. A win here would make a statement and cement them as one of the most successful teams from South Africa in the competition.

Tactical Overview

The Stormers, while coming in on a high after their last win, are missing some of their key players due to injury. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Seabelo Senatla are out until further notice.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu has a severe sprained ankle, which he sustained in the quarter-final against Cardiff last weekend. Senatla failed his HIA after a collision. The loss of both players puts a strain on the Stormers’ performance and their ability to effectively compete.

Nevertheless, the Stormers are likely to adopt a balanced approach. They will be looking to attack aggressively at the breakdown and disrupt Leinster’s flow. They thrive when matches become open and unpredictable. Let’s hope they can keep it up with some of these key players missing.

Leinster’s tactical game might be rocky after their coach, Jacques Nienaber, stated that he doesn’t feel valued at the club. He said, “I don’t think people value me here. They don’t value me here. They don’t.”

This comes after he has coached the Leinster side for going on three years and through last year’s URC final win. Often such discomfort from the coach causes disruption within the squad.

Yet, Leinster is known for their tempo, territorial control, and relentless pressure. If they can keep this up and control possession, they have a real chance at a win here.

Players to Watch

Caelan Doris (Leinster)

Playing eighth man, Caelan Doris captains the Leinster side. He is one of the top back-row forwards thanks to his work rate and leadership. When a crucial tackle is happening, odds are Doris is the one making it. He constantly finds a way to impact the game, making him an invaluable player for Leinster.

Damian Willemse (Stormers)

Playing his 14th match of the URC 2025/26 season, Damian Willemse is ready to represent the DHL Stormers. Recently, he has been in great form and has brought composure to the backline. Being a versatile player, Willemse is able to play positions 10, 12 or 15.

Prediction

The Stormers have shown over and over again that they are capable of performing under pressure. Their physicality, attacking pressure, and knockout experience make them a hard team to beat. But with all their recent injuries, their team is hanging by a thread.

Leinster, on the other hand, has been consistent throughout the season. Combine this with their home advantage, and you have a team vying for another win. If they are able to dictate possession and maintain their usual tempo, they should have enough to win.

Prediction: Leinster to win
