Kenya Open Preview
Following a week-long hiatus on the DP World Tour, the season resumes with the Kenyan Open taking center stage this week. The tournament will be held at the Kenyan Country Club for the first time in five years.
A total of 144 players will participate this week, with 47 of them being previous winners on tour. Last year, Jacques Kruyswijk secured the tournament title in an emotional victory, marking his first win in 139 starts. However, he will not be defending his title this year. Let’s preview the tournament.
Federik Schott
Federik Scott has been steadily building his reputation as an emerging player over the past two years. Last year, the 24-year-old German posted five top-five finishes, demonstrating his capacity to win a title on tour. His opportunity to claim a title finally materialized when he won his first DP World Tour title at the Bahrain Open, outperforming Patrick Reed and Callum Hill in a playoff round. He is back at the tournament where he finished fifth last year. As a player who excels on short courses, the Karen Country Club is an ideal venue for him.
Callum Hill
Callum Hill, one of the consistent golfer on the DP World Tour circuit this season, will likely emerge as the strong favourite to capture the title. Hill has already recorded two top-five finishes this year and exhibited the traits of a golfer with a strong desire for success. During the Qatar Masters, he was in a dominant position until he let slip a crucial lead in the third round, which ultimately prevented him from securing a well-deserved title and forced him to settle for a runner-up finish. Furthermore, he finished fifth in the Bahrain Open, where he consistently held a position on the leaderboard. If Hill can refine his final-hole performances, he will be a formidable opponent.
Dan Bradbury
Dan Bradbury is one of the players currently on a successful streak in the African tournament, exhibiting mastery of the courses with ease. Two of his professional career wins have been achieved on the African continent. The 26-year-old Englishman is coming off a second-place finish in the Nedbank Golf Challenge in honor of Gary Player. His record in the Kenya Open is impressive, boasting two top-five finishes. Furthermore, he achieved a tied fifth-place finish in the Qatar Masters. Now, it is vital for him to maintain his form as he approaches the tournament.
Prize Money
The professionals in the field will contend for a $2.7 million prize fund, a record for the tournament and a rise from $2.5 million last year, with the winner securing $467,500
