Cadillac Championship Preview
The PGA Tour returns to South Florida this week, bringing with it a new signature tournament to be held at Trump National Doral, a course that has not hosted a Tour event in over a decade.
The Cadillac Championship begins on Thursday, 30 April, marking the first time a Tour event has been staged at this venue since its move to Mexico City.
This tournament also marks a milestone, as it is the first Tour event to be held at one of President Donald Trump’s courses during his tenure. With its signature status, this event carries considerable weight. However, several prominent players, including Masters Champion Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, and Robert MacIntyre, will not be participating.
Scottie Scheffler
The global golf community is eager to know what is on Scottie Scheffler’s mind at the moment. In the past three weeks, he has come close to adding another title to his collection, following his win at the American Express. At the Masters, the world’s number one golfer led for much of the four days, only to be overtaken by Rory McIlroy. This was a disappointing moment, as many had expected Scheffler’s impressive skills to carry him to victory. A fortnight ago, the 29-year-old American golfer faced another setback, losing out to Matt Fitzpatrick in a playoff at the RBC Heritage. These consecutive losses are a significant challenge, requiring Scheffler to draw on his mental fortitude to return to winning form. The Cadillac Championship presents a prime opportunity for him to do so, especially with many top golfers absent from the event.
Cameron Young
Cameron Young enters the Cadillac Championship as a strong favorite to claim the title. However, he will first aim to overcome the disappointment of his subpar performance at the RBC Heritage, where he finished tied for 25th. This was an uncharacteristic display, given the 28-year-old’s impressive form this year, which has included four top-ten finishes, including a win at the Players title. The demanding nature of the course, renowned for being one of the most challenging, may actually work in Young’s favor, as he tends to thrive in such conditions. As the world’s fourth-ranked player, Young will not need to exert himself excessively to secure victory, but rather maintain his commitment to delivering when it counts.
Collin Morikawa
The year began on a tenuous note for Collin Morikawa, with many predicting a downturn. He struggled to make the cut at the Sony Open and finished tied for 54th at the Phoenix Open. Nevertheless, the 29-year-old American rebounded with a resounding victory at the AT and T Pebble Beach Pro Am. Subsequently, he has been a force to be reckoned with, achieving four top-10 finishes in as many consecutive tournaments. As the season progresses, Morikawa is becoming increasingly difficult to beat, and it is now anticipated that he will maintain his outstanding form and claim the championship in Miami.
Prize Money
The 2026 Cadillac Championship, a prominent PGA Tour Signature Event at Trump National Doral, boasts a total prize purse of $20 million, with a substantial $3.6 million winner’s cheque.
