Preview: Protea Women Eye Crucial Win Against Netherlands 

The Protea Women will be aiming for another back-to-back win in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 against the Netherlands this evening at 7:30pm. They have recovered well after a difficult start to the World Cup, losing their opening match to Australia. But their wins over Pakistan and India have kept their semi-final hopes alive.  

For the Netherlands, this tournament marks their first appearance at a T20 Women’s World Cup. They have shown growth throughout the season. But unfortunately they will not be making the semi-finals.  

So, with expectations high for a South African win and the Netherlands looking to prove themselves yet again, this is set to be an exciting match.  

Proteas Looking to Build Momentum 

The Protea Women entered this tournament as fan favourites after taking second place in the last World Cup. Although their campaign has featured some inconstancy, their victory over India demonstrated their squad quality and ability to perform under pressure.  

The South African side has an exceptional batting lineup led by captain Laura Wolvaardt. Their bowling attack also possesses the necessary firepower needed to trouble any nation. They’ll be bringing their all to this match in order to maintain their perfect winning streak against the Netherlands.  

Netherlands Chasing a Famous Result 

The Netherlands achieved a major milestone: qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup this year. They were one of four teams that secured their place through the global qualifiers. So far, the experience they have gained has been invaluable.

Ayabonga Khaka (Protea Women) 

Taking the most T20I wickets in a calendar year for South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka is a player to watch. She is known for her consistent bowling, accuracy, and control. She’s consistently delivered on the international stage. So much so that in 2024, she became the first Black African woman to play 100 ODIs for South Africa.  

Babette de Leede (Netherlands) 

The Dutch captain and wicketkeeper-batter, Babette de Leede, is known to provide stability for her team. Her leadership and performance have been instrumental in the Netherlands’ success.  

Prediction  

South Africa enters this match as the clear favourites. The Netherlands, on the other hand, have not won a match so far in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. They have lost both recent matches by over 90 runs. But T20 cricket is known for producing surprises, and the Dutch will be keen to create one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.
